Wood Fence Installation with Equinox Fence

Serving Boise, Garden City, Eagle, Meridian, Kuna, McCall, Caldwell, and Nampa, our team brings years of experience and dedication to every wood fence project. Whether you’re looking for a classic cedar privacy fence, a decorative picket fence, or a custom wood fence design, we have the expertise to bring your vision to life.

Wood fences remain one of the most popular fencing choices for homeowners, and for good reason. Here’s why a wood fence installation might be perfect for your property.

How it works

From first call to finished job

  1. Step 1

    Initial Consultation

We start by listening to your goals. We also factor in Boise’s clay soils, freeze-thaw cycles, and hot summers so your fence is designed to stay strong and attractive for decades.

  2. Step 2

    Site Assessment

Our team visits your property to measure and evaluate the terrain. Boise neighborhoods range from flat lots to sloped yards, so we check soil type, frost depth, and drainage to ensure your posts are stable.

  3. Step 3

    Installation

Our trained crews handle every step with precision—no subcontractors. From a family backyard near the Boise River Greenbelt to a commercial site in Garden City, every fence is built to last.

  4. Step 4

    Customization & Finishing Touches

Finally, we add the details that make your fence yours—custom heights, decorative gates, ornamental designs, or powder-coated colors that match your property.

What's included

Wood Fence Installation: what we handle

  • Privacy fences: Solid 6 ft fences in dog-ear, flat-top or board-on-board styles that block the view from neighbors and the street.
  • Picket and split-rail: Lower fences for front yards, gardens and large properties, where you want a boundary rather than a wall.
  • Posts set to last: Posts set in concrete or compacted gravel, deep enough for your soil and frost line.
  • Keeping rot away: Ground-contact rated posts, and a kickboard along the bottom so the fence boards stay off the soil.
  • Gates to match: Walk gates and double drive gates built from the same boards, on frames braced against sagging.
  • Stain and sealer: Stain or sealer applied once the wood has dried out, to slow weathering and hold the color.

What clients say

5.0

“With Equinox Fence, you will get professionals who are experienced in construction. The fences they installed on my farm help me sleep at night because I know my animals are safe. I appreciate their attention to detail, such as ordering special hardware that will last longer and adjustments that will help the fence adapt to the rise and fall of the soil. I'd give Equinox 10 stars if I could just for their communication alone. How great is it to have vendors call you back promptly, answer phone calls, and keep you posted on the timeline? I will always hire them for my fencing needs.”

Linda Haley

“Equinox did a great job with our project. From fencing to painting & staining, they tackled all of our requests and did so beautifully. Sean, Jeff, and the entire crew were hard-working, professional, and had a can-do attitude. I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again on future projects.”

Melissa Galli

“While gazing out our window, we ask ourselves, "What took us SO long to have this beautiful view of our gorgeous fence?" Those walking, jogging, taking their dog for a walk, comment to us that our fence is a favorite in their neighborhood walk. The Equinox crew paid attention to detail. Worked for perfection in the quality of their work. Showed creativity in their ideas for using materials from our old fence. Before they left, the construction site was spotless!”

FAQ

Wood Fence Installation: common questions

Cedar or pressure-treated pine?

Cedar resists rot and insects naturally, stays straighter and weathers to a silver-gray if left unstained. Pressure-treated pine is strong and usually costs less, but it's more prone to shrinking, warping and cracking as it dries. Many fences combine the two: treated posts with cedar boards.

How long does a wood fence last?

With well-set posts and regular staining or sealing, a cedar fence commonly lasts 15 to 20 years or more, treated pine somewhat less. Wet soil, sprinklers hitting the boards and skipped maintenance shorten that.

When should I stain a new wood fence?

New wood, especially pressure-treated lumber, needs to dry before it takes stain well, often a few weeks to a few months depending on the weather. A simple test: sprinkle water on the boards. If it soaks in, the wood is ready; if it beads up, wait a little longer.
